Psalm 95:7-9 - for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture

Praise the Lord!

for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care. Today, if only you would hear his voice, “Do not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah, as you did that day at Massah in the wilderness, where your ancestors tested me; they tried me, though they had seen what I did.

Faced with the claim that God still speaks to His children today, we are also confronted with the premise that when God does speak to us, we are expected to listen and obey. Every action of disobedience hardens our hearts, and that hardening can get to the point where God is shouting at us and we don’t hear a thing. You may say, “I have never heard from God in this way”, but think back upon a time when your conscience was nagging you about doing or not doing something. You may find that the Holy Spirit was there all along, trying to get your attention. Go back to that moment and examine how well you adhered to your conscience. You may find there is a reason why it seems that God doesn’t speak to you.
