Psalm 6:1-3 - Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath.

Praise the Lord!

Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath. Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am faint; heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony. My soul is in deep anguish. How long, Lord, how long?

The psalms convey the wide range of human emotions in ways that few works of literature do. Have you felt so weak that you couldn’t defend yourself? Have you ever wondered why there is no answer when you make your petition to God over and over? David felt this way too, and captured this powerfully in these verses. As this Psalm progresses, David has to be content that the Lord has heard his prayer, knowing that the Lord is faithful to His servant. This becomes a point of contact to all of us who deal with the reality of what seems like a delay in God’s timing to our perceived need.
